Crisp fresh bok choy cooked in butter and garlic. Quick to make and pairs well as a side dish or eaten as is. This veggie can easily enhance any dish that it touches during meal time. If you consider yourself a vegetable fan then this recipe is a must try.
There’s so many ways to elevate bok choy, but sometimes simple is best. This takes me less than 10 minutes to cook these and it adds a nice texture to my meal. Bok Choy is known as a Chinese cabbage. The stalks have a celery crunchy texture, and the leaves are light and crisp.
- Cooking times will vary by how you like your vegetables and by the size. The larger bok choy will require more time whereas the smaller ones will be less time.
- Make sure to rinse bok choy well since we’re not cutting off the stem. You need to carefully lift each leaf individually to properly clean it.

Ingredients

- 1 lb bok choy
- 4–5 smashed garlic
- 1 tbsp salted butter
- 1/2 tsp kosher salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
Instructions
- Cut bok choy in quarters to keep them intact. Rinse in between bok choy leaves.
- Smash garlic and set aside
- On med – high heat add bok choy to your cast iron. Place sliced bok choy and cook for 1-2 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
- Add smashed garlic and butter to pan and base bok boy with garlic and butter. Cook each side for 1-2 mins. Cook longer if you want it softer and less time if you like it to still have a bite.
- Eat as is or serve as a side.
