My name is Tiffany Ly and I am 26 years old. I was born and raised in Sacramento, CA and I have two BEAUTIFUL children.
A little background…
Growing up in a Chinese/American home I only had my dad, sister, and grandparents. My dad was a single father trying to make ends meet. He worked in a restaurant for 10 plus hours a day, 6 days a week so we were often with our grandparents. My grandparents used to teach me how to cook little meals as I was growing up. I vividly remember cooking at the age of 9 a four course meal for their friends; rice, fried fish, tomato soup, and stir fried vegtables. I ate a lot of Chinese food growing up, no not your local Chinese restaurant food or Panda Express; REAL CHINESE FOOD that was plain Jane. I hardly ever ate any food that had flavor or spice but I was grateful for the food on my plate. I used to love watching the Food Network and trying to recreate some recipes with the limited ingredients I had at home. OH HOW I FELL IN LOVE! There were so many different taste pallets that I never got to explore.
Being a teen mom, I was held back on a lot of things that I wanted to do. I watched all my friends graduate high school and walk the stage while I went to a different high school for teen moms. While everyone was attending college and partying up, I was trying to raise my daughter while growing up myself. There were so many times I cried myself to sleep because I was unhappy with my life. I would work 40 plus hours a week, 6-7 days a week with little to no sleep. Sound familiar? I had no time for myself and no time for me to do what I love to do because I was so focused on providing for my little family. Working so much never stopped me from ever making a meal for my kids. Even if it was only once or twice a week, cooking for them always made me happy.
Fast forward to today, I learned to cook so many new recipes over the course of years with plenty of trial and errors. So much blood, sweat, and tears went into my food to feed my family. Watching them enjoy every bite of their dinner brought me so much joy and happiness, something I lacked for a long time. I would literally take nothing and make it into something. That’s when I knew this is what I loved to do. COOK. I wouldn’t be here today if it weren’t for my kids and boyfriend. They push me every day to be the best version of myself.
